Fubar!
I am currently working on a plan to move internet service provider. The one I am using, although they are totally fantastic are a little beyond my meagre budget at the moment.
In the meantime, you may notice several things starting to break around here..... music, pictures, you know, the kind of things that are linked to some webspace that is now moving to somewhere else.
I will try to minimise the impact that this move has on everything, but if you spot something that doesn't work, then please let me know.
Thanks for your patience.

Surprise!!
I am truly surprised by the reaction to my previous post. It would seem that my passion for birdfeeding is not such an isolated case. Messages of support have been flooding in.... well a couple of people mentioned that they also indulge, and that's nice.
This year is the first year that I have had baby birds living in and around my garden, and it fills me with delight.
There's a family with three baby goldfinches. The juveniles looking similar to their parents, but lacking the vibrant red patch on their heads. They have a resplendent yellow "Z" down their wings though.
A family with three baby robins, and they are just starting to get their red breasts and to lose their spotty juvenile down. They've been such good company this summer. Apparently they are rarely seen in July and August, but I have had a garden full of them.
Bluetits nested in the holes in the cement between my house and next door. You wouldn't even know there was a hole there to be honest, and it took me a while to actually find where they were flying their beakfulls of worms into. Lots of chicks and still a good number in the garden.
Other feathered friends without families it would seem are:
Collared dove; Starling; Dunnock; Wren; Sparrow; Chaffinch; Greenfinch; Blackbird; Thrush;
In other news.....
Big Brother.... we're winding down, and tomorrow is the final. I'd be lying if I said I was excited, but I am looking forward to it. I think I have managed to keep my blog fairly Big-Brother-free during the mammoth thirteen week stint.
Beer: I've got a hankering for some real ale this weekend. I am going to give both The Star at Lockwood, and The Grove at Springwood a shot. From what I've read, they are two of Huddersfield's finest "ale" pubs, and I am getting a bit old for drinking wihtout being able to speak to my companions.
Antichrist: I have made the fatal error of reinstalling the antichrist of video gaming onto my computer. I had it before, but after it ruined my lust for gaming and lowered my self esteem to nothingness, it had to die. The Sims 2 rides again!! How many weeks will I spend maintaining my virtual real estate, while my real house and life fall into complete disrepair around my ears??
Yorkshire Pudding: You don't scare me, you big puddin'!
Random kindness: Still working on this one. Pol, it was also on R2 the other day when the lovely Davina was standing in for someone. Those blagards have robbed me blind and cast me assunder.
Blog updates: I know it doesn't look like I have been here much lately, and the posts have been thin on the ground, but believe me, I've been working my fingers to the bone for you. Here's a brief list of things that have changed:
Random Shopping has started again.
The navigation stuff on the right hand side of my page was looking really shabby, and there were so many sections with different little snippets in them, and I know nobody read any of them, so I have turned each section into a blog entry.... Feel free to click some fo the things under the "Blogbits" section on the right hand side to see what I mean.
Flickr: Not only did I upload a little section of photos for Connor (and tag them all, and geotag them all, and title, and description them), but I also uploaded a few new ones of my own. Feel free to head across to Flickr and look at mine and/or Connor's pics.
Bloglines: My cousin Sophia mentioned (sometime earlier this year) that there was a product out there called "bloglines" which manages all the blogs that you read. My list of blogs to read was becoming so long, that I have (more by necessity than curiosity) invested some effort into it, and I am loving it. If you have a long blog list to trawl through, then I suggest you set it up for yourself. Thanks Soph.... Also: I found the Guitar Hero disc that I couldn't find when you were here - didn't take me long huh?
Bowling cam: More new pictures on my dedicated bowling cam highlights page.
Pogo; Sims2; Battlefield 1942; Dungeon Keeper2 - Too much time to mention on the aforementioned.

Bowling cam.
OK, despite the fact that it is indeed a "zen like" experience watching the grass grow at the bowling club...... Occasionally, something happens. I am going to keep this entry for posting "bowling cam" highlights to prove a point. If anyone spots anything good on bowling cam, then make sure you are viewing it on this page and email me the picture for inclusion.
My mum and Fred bowling.
Puffers and slurpers. Donated by DohDoh - A confirmed "bowling cam" addict.
Peter can't get his "strimmer" started.
The mower man cometh....
Rook - Yes it's a rook, just a common or garden rook. The trees you see beyond the bowling green actually hold a rookery, so it's not surprising that we get rooks. Rarely though do you see a rook on the bowling green. Rarer still does the rook actually walk with a limp like this one did - you'll have to trust me on that one.
September dawns over Outlane Bowling Club. White rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits, or a pinch and a punch for the first of the month. Whichever you prefer. I am intrigued to note the shadows across the bowling green may be used at a later stage as some sort of sundial.... maybe??
Snow White. Honestly. Look carefully, and just above the date stamp at the edge of the bowling green you can see what appears to be one of the seven dwarves and Snow White engaging in some sort of perverse role reversal?
Floodlights. The first floodlit game of the season. This picture signifies the exact end of the match.
The Pete Fowlie trophy is hotly contested around these parts. I believe this is some sort of scoring discrepancy or disagreement about to flare up into violence.
My birthday. A man climbs up a ladder in the rain to fix a roof on the extension at the back of the property at the top right hand side of this picture. Happy birthday to me.
Shock, horror. The yobs are in town. Unprecedented levels of anti-social behaviour as one of these yobs urinates in a flower pot and they all take turns in riding their bikes on the bowling green. Disgraceful behaviour. Bring back the birch!!

Mousetrap.
I am turning into a hunter gatherer.... my inner animal is being released.
Maybe I should have fought for custody of the cats after all!!
Ok, I am going to avoid all the problems associated with adding a mouse tally to each day and create a dedicated mouse post.
Mouse number 1: He likes drinking Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain. (21 Aug 2007)

Mouse number 2: Once played bridge with Omar Sharif. (22 Aug 2007)

Shrew number 3: Had a number one single in 1984 called "Bing Bamma Boom Boom" (31 Aug 2007)

Mouse number 4: A late night chocolate fetish that we all knew would end in tears, actually gave this mouse a fatal nosebleed. It's been a while since my last confirmed kill, so when this bugger ran across the kitchen floor in front of me, I declared chocolate spread war.(3rd Oct 2007)

Mouse number 5: He dreams of sipping Cuba Libres on a far flung desert island shore, and once played in goals for Scunthorpe United. (11th Oct 2007)

Mouse number 6: His cousin, a badger, once pissed on an electric fence to see if it would give his balls an electric shock. The badger is dead now. (16th Oct 2007)

Mouse number 7: Despite what looks like blood all over the mousetrap, we can confirm on closer inspection, it is merely the remnants of several portions of chocolate spread. Just ask this mouse if you don't believe me. (17th Oct 2007)

Mouse number 8: OMG - I was getting quite comfortable with the constant battering of mice. Until now, each and every kill had been quick and clean, with a snap across the back of the neck. This one looked a bit more painful. It made me feel sick thinking about it. Hope it was quick!! The biggest mouse I caught so far. (28th Oct 2007)

Mouse number 9: He gave himself away by virtue of the fact that I am hardly ever at home. I had trodden on the mousetrap and set it off, but the bait still went missing!! Silly mouse!! He's dead now though and I'm not... who's laughing now?? Muhahahahah!! (20th November 2007)

Mouse number 10: What better way to enter double figures than with a bleeder?? Poor beggar, although it looked like instant death from above, I had to move the trap to take this picture. The floor was a pool of blood where his front legs were smashed to pieces!! Ouch!! (21st November 2007)

Mouse number 11: Once went on a "round the world" cruise holiday, where he dined with the stars of the Carry-On movies (24th Nov 2007).

Mouse number 12: He's a fat one, but fast. He tried to eat and run, but Lucifer denied him the opportunity. Eats, shoots and splats!! (26th Nov 2007)

Mouse number 13: Too messy to photograph. A very untidy kill, and one that had to be finished manually!! Unlucky for some!! (3rd Dec 2007)
Mouse number 14: Quick and clean. I'm back on track. Bloodless, straight, old fashioned kill. pleasant return to Luciferian form. (9th Dec 2007)

Mouse number 15: Once had a French pen pal, called Jean Francoise, but they fell out when Jean Francoise insisted on sending numerous pictures of Charles De Gaulle with the legs of a ram grafted on, from his mobile phone. (14th Jan 2008)

Mouse number 16: Following a game of Perudo, this little chap was on his way home when.... well, that'll teach him to drink so much!! (29th Jan 2008)

Mouse number 17: Once this fella was the booking agent for Ken Dodd and the Diddy Men of Knotty Ash. Following Ken's tax evasion exploits, the two friends split, and the mouse was last seen trying to press gang Timeteam's Tony Robinson into making another series of Fat Tulip's Garden. (2nd Feb 2008)

Mouse number 18: One minute we were eating tapas, and having a good laugh at the plight of teenage binge drinkers, when he suddenly and unexpectedly had one sip of wine too many and went straight for the chocolate spread!! "Oh, Monty!!" I cried as his ears felt Lucifer's full force!! alas I fear he did not hear me. (16th Feb 2008)

Mouse number 19: Mustapha Mouse, once sailed single handedly around Black Moss Reservoir in search of hedgehog that could recite the complete works of Edward Lear whilst riding a unicycle. Suffice to say, his search was, like a sponge cake, rather fruitless!! (31st Mar 2008)

Mouse number 20: After taking part in the BBC sitcom "Oops where's my trousers?" alongside June Whitfield, this mouse's ambitions were fulfilled, and there was little left but to throw himself to the mercy of Lucifer the French mousetrap! (10th Apr 2008)

Films I've watched...
2025:
The broken knee list:
Weapons (2025) - A bunch of kids disappear in the night... i mean, they just run off, into the night.... What happened to them, where did they go? Angry parents want answers and the town gets a bit restless before they start uncovering the answers. Couple of funny jump-scares and some good horror moments - horror is always more scary when it's kids, innit? - "Oh, fuck, Willow."
The Perfect Neighbor (2025) - A documentary about a shooting in an American neighborhood (hence the spelling of "neighbour") - shot mostly on police bodycam and doorbells - captures the chaos of the scene and how it all unfolds. I admit it had us both in tears. Very sad and heart-breaking. A decent film and well worth a watch but keep a hankie close by. - "You even know how to drive?"
The Love Lottery (1954) - EC#13 - Unlucky for some. This tepid love story involves a disillusioned actor raffling off his own hand in marriage, sort of. David Niven schlepps his way through some fairly trippy dream sequences and some terrible dance sequences. Really not my cup of tea. Won't be back for a rewatch! Best bit was literally at the end with an uncredited cameo by someone i shan't reveal,- "I am a mathematician."
Meet Mr. Lucifer (1953) - EC#12 - First time viewing... Back to black and white for this tale of a satanic television set. Stanley Holloway, rides again as both Mr Hollingsworth, and the devil, as their television set wreaks havoc for all those that are seduced by it. For one of the lesser know films this was quite good. - "Television! It's an instrument of the Devil!"
The Titfield Thunderbolt (1953) - EC#11 - Been looking forward to this. First one in colour and really good technicolour! Seen many times and still a great Ealing movie. Bunch of locals take control of their own local train line/service, and try to prove that they can successfully run it themselves. Great bunch of characters, backed by a drunken benefactor (Stanley Holloway). - "Money is the curse of all modern sports, Sir."
His Excellency (1952) - EC#10 - Not one of the best. Socialist Yorkshireman, dock-worker is appointed as governor of a British colony in the Med. The peasants are revolting! And for the most part, so is the film. Well, the film was alright, but as a stereotyped socialist yorkshireman it was pretty poorly done. Bags of scope for story... not explored - Medium jinx at best - "One duck to one peoples?"
The Man in the White Suit (1951) - EC#9 - Another of Ealing's finest, with Alec Guinness inventing an indestructible fibre that might revolutionise the textile industry.... but will it ever be allowed onto the market? Fantastic lab scenes and i am amazed nobody has made a techno tune using the lab sound samples. See it! Hear it!! - ".... what about my bit o' washing, when there's no washing to do?"
The Lavender Hill Mob (1951) - EC#8 - Classic tale of robbery, smuggling and comedic shennanigans. Headed by Alec Guinness, it's a rip roaring Ealing CLASSIC! I particularly like the beginning and end sequences. You might call it Ealing gold! Cameo appearance of Audrey Hepburn, no less - "And on the farm he had some pigs...."
The Magnet (1950) - EC#7 = A young lad sort of steals a large magnet off another kid, and gets chased by karma. Feels a bit like the tale of the tell-tale heart in another guise. Not sure why this is classed as a comedy... i wasn't laughing. The kid at the heart of the story was pretty annoying. Seen it, now move along. Struggled to find a quote from it. - "They'll be measuring you for a wooden overcoat!"
A Run for Your Money (1949) - EC#6 - Two provincial Welsh mining lads win a prize to go up to London to see the Rugby and collect some cash. Dazzled by the city lights, they soon end up on dichotomous adventures of catastrophe. Not one of Ealing's better known, but an enjoyable romp that held my attention - "But Wales is part of England!"
Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949) - EC#5 - It's an Alec Guinness masterclass where the maestro takes on no less than eight characters of the D'Ascoyne family. It's a farcical comedy of murder and revenge, of family feuding and twisted love. Much like EC#4 it's the pinnacle of Ealing comedies. Must see! - "I shot an arrow in the air; she fell to earth in Berkeley Square."
Whisky Galore (1948) - Ealing comedy #4 - Scottish crofters can't believe their luck when a ship with 50,000 cases of whisky, runs aground. Comedic capers ensue. A childhood favourite of mine. Feels like a tale of Robin Hood.... but how will it all end? n absolute smasher, highly recommended! - !It's a well known fact that some men were born two drinks below par."
Another Shore (1948) - Second Ealing comedy - wait, tragi-comedy.... Set in Dublin, a young man's dreams of escaping the rat race and heading for a new life in the South Seas are hampered only by his lack of funding..... opportunity and love come in equal measure and help and hinder his plans.... not dissimilar to my own outlook on life - this was a hard movie to find - bit forgettable, but worth a watch - watch out for a small cameo by a young Wilfred Brambell - "Psst, Hey you mister, what are you doing on them steps?"
Passport to Pimlico (1949) - Cockney suburb discovers it was originally part of Burgundy, and in this Ealing comedy, the nineteen families of Pimlico, declare their independence from England with amusing consequences.... heart-warming and funny and quintessentially English, the third film in the series. - " Blimey, I'm a foreigner."
Hue and Cry (1947) - First of the Ealing Comedies. Feels VERY post war, set amidst bombed out London, a bunch of kids set out to foil a gang of criminals. Lots of maniacal laughter and chirpy cockney barrow boy antics. Funny fight sequence towards the end, of course. - "Oh, how I loathe adventurous-minded boys."
Godzilla Minus One (2023) - Modern telling of a familiar mega-monster story. A failed kamikaze pilot who fails to help a second time, seems to imagine that the third time will be the charm. Monster attacks Tokyo with a massive death ray. So true to the original it was amazing! I wept a bit at the end.... Must see! - "Is that... Godzilla?"
Mr. Vampire (1985) - Hammy Chinese vampire movie. Film was richly colourful. Quite comical and the pace was not too bad... seemed to be a little disjointed in parts. The way the vampires move about (by bunny hopping) is very pleasing. Will our protagonists manage to stop the rot? Not bad. - "It's my bad luck to have apprentices like you."
A Song for Jenny (2015) - The London bombings of 7/7 and the tale of a lost loved one. This came recommended to me and was a little outside of what i'd normally watch. Despite it being a true story(ish) i found it a bit unbalanced.... like a one sided story... not really my cup of tea. It did make me cry and it was harrowing and sad.... but that's probably the best i can say about it.
Napoleon Dynamite(2004) - Lost count of the number of times i've seen this movie and it still makes me laugh out loud and cry like a little baby. Every scene is like a little set piece of its own. The characters are amazing. Some of the scrapes they get into are wild and funny. The more i see it the more i love it. - "Do the chickens have large talons?"
Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart to Hades (1972) - Back pushing the pram round for another outing, our hero saves a hooker, kills some people, unleashes war on a disgraced chamberlain..... and helps a fellow ronin find peace. Think the sex and violence are dialled up a bit in this one but a good film and great final sequences. - "The true way of the warrior means to live by death."
Heavens Above (1963) - Another Peter Sellers all star cast bonanza. Priest sent to a parish by mistake causes revolution by bringing religion into the equation. What starts positive soon takes a turn for the worse and you wouldn't predict the ending! Great film - quite long for an old b&w - "I don't think there's any need to keep bringing God into this."
The Big Job (1965) - Almost a "carry-on" by any other name - Sid James, and a lot of familiar faces in a comedy crime caper where the crooks try to retrieve the loot with ridiculous consequences. A great afternoon black and white film. Lots of fun. - "We 'aven't done anything wrong. It's *our* money. *We* stole it."
Animal Kingdom (2010) - Broody Aussie crime thriller - Tangled web of family/gang related nefarious activities, spiralling out of control, and losing their minds. Always feels like someone is going to catch a bullet, at any given moment, and mostly, they do. Uncomfortable in parts, gritty, grim, realistic feeling. - "Let him know who's king."
Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in Peril (1972) - Our samurai friend steps out again, this time, hired to kill a female assassin with some fancy tattoos and a penchant for getting her freak on by cutting off dead samurais' top knots while naked to the waist. Nice tats! Mad soundtrack - lots of flashing blades and spurting blood - i'll see your sword in the eye, and raise you one stab in the spine - "I have come for your life,"
Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025) - If you know the format you know what you're getting. Recurring dream leads protagonist to uncover the string of deaths and to try to cheat death itself. Jump scares and gory deaths aplenty - Pretty good watching, a worthy addition to the franchise - "Don't worry about me, go save your sister. I'm gonna live as long as I..."
Hoffman (1970) - Peter Sellers in this weird rehash of beauty and the beast. More or less a two-hander with some strong acting. Just felt a bit cringey as a concept to me. Sellers tries to woo a company secretary by blackmailing her to live with him for a week - i am glad i've seen it. - "That's a charming schoolgirl frown you have there, Miss Smith."
High and Low (1963) - Very enjoyable and technically excellent crime thriller from esteemed director Kurosawa. Factory boss's kid is kidnapped for ransom followed by dilemma and murder. I loved the scene in the bar with the rock and roll dancing.... hot, sweaty, thrilling. - "A woman wears a hat on her head, but shoes carry all her weight."
Cheap (1974) - Animated film about an uptight insurance salesman being led towards his mojo by an inherited duck. Very much borne of it's time and heavily dated. Bit of a dud. Some interesting and manic sequences, but overall i think my fourteen year old self might have enjoyed this film more than i did. Seen it, move along. - "Shut up, Yoko!"
Hey Cinderella (1969) - Kermit the frog's first appearance as a frog (apparently he was a lizard, previously) in this live action/muppet crossover. I guess ahead of it's time. It's basically the story we all know but with added monsters and muppets and it works pretty well. The muppets upstaged their human counterparts.... precursor to my favourite Muppets Christmas Carol i guess - "Whoever heard of not staying for the ice cream and cake?"
Bedazzled (1967) - Hapless burger flipper sells soul to the devil and is subsequently tricked at every turn in his quest to make a co-worker fall for him. Swinging sixties and Peter Cooke and Dudley Moore lend this story gravity. Funny and quirky. A good watch, holds up well despite its age. - "Here, my ice lolly's melted. You really must be the Devil."
Glass Onion (2022) - Second outing for Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), the inimitable investigator. Following on from Knives Out, this was always going to be a tough act to follow. Many threads and of course as the story develops and layers are revealed, much like an onion. Better whodunnit than Miss Marple, much less suburban! Well worth a watch. - "What is reality?"
The Naked Truth (1957) - Twisty, whacky, blackmail crime caper with an all star cast of the time -Peter Sellers, Terry Thomas, etc. I'm not a fan of Peggy Mount (my problem, not hers) so at points i was cringing a bit. Overall a solid British comedy of the era. Don't think everyone lived up to their potential but there were glimpses. - "I want some Mickey Finn. The real McCoy, Mac."
Pokemon: Detective Pikachu (2019) - If you like Pokemon then you'll probably enjoy this live action crime thing. Bloody Ryan Reynolds stars as Pikachu.... i know, right? Well, despite nodding off at the end (i blame the medication and the midnight hour) i quite enjoyed it. It's niche, not for everyone, but you could watch it with the kids, innit? - "All I'm hearing are consonants, and all I'm seeing are nipples."
The Pink Panther (1963) - James Bond meets Laurel and Hardy in this comic crime caper. Drenched in 1960s chic glamour. Sellers and Niven combined with the first appearance of the animated Pink Panther make this an important, and funny start to a very successful franchise. See if you can keep up with the main characters' bed hopping antics. - "What kind of candle is zis?"
Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance (1972) - Promised myself to watch this. Complicated clan/caste structure (maybe not to those more initiated with samurai and stuff) - but once you get the idea it's actually quite a good film. Some Tarantino inspiring fight scenes and a protagonist with cat-like reflexes. Solid film. - "I am the Second designated by the Shogunate... Ogami Itto."
Django (1966) - It's still one of my favourite spaghetti westerns - probably second time it's appeared on this list because i will go back and rewatch it when i feel like it. Excellent double play, as Django works inside to combat the warring factions of the Baxters and the Mexicans. No spoilers but the "cemetery scene" is the bit we're all cheering for! - "You can clean up the mess, now. But don't touch my coffin."
Deja Vu (2006) - A cop using tech, observes a mess murder back in time.... and remarkably sends himself back to fall in love with some chick or other..... that's probably a bit harsh, but there were a fair few moments of utter unbelievability in this sci-fi thriller.... it was ok at best for my taste - "I need more cowbell!"
Watchmen: Chapter 1 (2024) - Another adaptation of the excellent Moore/Gibson graphic novel from back in t'day. We've had a live action version of the book and this animated version is pretty much the same, but, well, drawn.... it's a solid movie cos the story is good. I liked it. Alan Moore, again, not credited because he refuses to go anywhere near it. - "I am tired of Earth, these people. I'm tired of being caught in the tangle of their lives"
The Lord of the Rings: the War of the Rohirrim (2024) - It's like donkey;' years before the LOTR trilogy, but basically this is how Helm's Deep (a fortress) gets its name. Stunning animation in anime style (there's a lot of technical wizardry behind it) - Captivating story and easily stands up as good as the live action films, in my view. - "The line of Helm is not so easily broken"
The Wild Robot (2024) - Stranded on an island, a robot that is programmed to complete tasks finds only wildlife for company - the story that unfolgs of friendships made and some pretty lush animation is quite sentimental and touching. I actually really liked some bits of this film a lot. Dawn saw the last five minutes and cried. - "I'm a fox, I do foxy things. It's in my nature!"
The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) - Watched it on the second attempt - Dark, funny, heart-breaking. When two friends fall out, the consequences are deep and spiral. I have to admit, it's one of those films that doesn't really resolve but very compelling viewing. Tears were shed. - "Do you think God gives a damn about miniature donkeys, Colm?"
Moana 2 (2024) - The fearless protagonist enlists the help of a demigod in order to find her way to a hidden island, in a bid to reconnect her people with other humans. Quite enjoyable Disney distraction. Some catchy songs and a few pretty good gags... and there's a slug thing that oozes toxic snot. - "I don't do sing-alongs."
----- ------- ------ ------
Footsteps in the Fog (1955) - A Victorian London, dark, broody version of "what the butler maid saw" - when murder turns to blackmail and back to murder. A strange love triangle, deceit and lies. Atmospheric thriller. I quite enjoyed it.... quite twisty. - "Don't ever use her perfume."
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024) - Plenty of big monsters and giant monkeys, with the odd moth thrown in for good measure. All the good things about monster movies... bit of gore, some ice beams, death rays..... you get the idea..... admittedly a small snooze during the bit where the monkey had been augmented, but overall it was quite watchable. - "is that a mini-Kong?"
Flow (2024) - Post apocalyptic anime version of The Incredible Journey (sort of) - weirdly annoying and magical - cat meets dog meets capybara etc all set in a future water world. like the end of Planet of the Apes..... You maniacs, you blew it all up..... animation was somewhat too "muddy" for me to properly engage and i asked myself several times "why?" - "meow"
Us (2019) - A fairly watchable horror romp when a family meets their own family of doppelgangers..... i thought it was a bit predictable, and i do think the trailer was probably better than the movie, but we made it through. It was... ok - "Ophelia, call the police."
A Time To Kill (1996) - Racism and revenge.... do two wrongs make a right - i don't know.... the movie was gritty and difficult to watch at times but i felt the "message" might be a little muddy - all star cast - Samuel L Jackson, Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaughey.... hard to say "enjoyed it" but glad i watched it - "Our society cannot condone men who take the law into their own hands."
The 51st State (2001) - New drug, secret recipe, Samuel L Jackson in a kilt, and then out of a kilt. Billed as a comedy/thriller it was ok. A little bit contrived, and some pretty poor performances, but the movie had a certain pace and was an easy watch. - "Seven shades of shit in a one shit trumpet, sir."
Poor Things (2023) - i was minded of "The Lighthouse" in that it was so odd and had similar sexual, i hasten to say the term undercurrent, as it definitely is more of an overtone. Lavish sets and interesting characters. I actually found it compelling. If you like 'em arty, or you just wanna see some knockers.... go for it. - "She grabbed my hairy business!"
Uncharted (2022) - Alright - i played the game so i watched the movie. It was ok.... if you like Indiana Jones and The Goonies.... and maybe a little Pirates of the Caribbean, then you might find this is ok, if a little "unbelieveable" in part. Glad i watched it, nowt no more. - "I can't leave a cat here, it'll shit all over my floor"
Don't Move (2024) - I used to love Sam Raimi's work but this one felt a bit flat. Weirdly sort of rushed and not very suspenseful. It passed an hour and a half. Suspense/thriller.... mildly! - "Help… me."
Magpie (2024) - Random film night - Uncomfortable viewing in parts due to the nature of the relationship portrayed but the payoff seemed acceptable. It had Dawn cheering at the end. Worth a watch - stick with it. - "To you it might just be pancakes...."
Wicked (2024) - Barbie goes to Hogwarts - it's ok. Actually it was probably better than my expectations. The singing is impressive but nobody needs to hear Jeff Goldblum singing "So if you care to find me, look to the western sky! "
<insert big gap here where many movies were consumed>
New List:
Children of the Corn (2009) - Diabolical TV remake - embarrassingly bad version of a rather scary story, and one which I couldn't wait to end - "Scarecrow!"
Together (2000) - (Tilsammans) - Swedish 70's commune exposes itself to external influences in a touching and mildly amusing way. Amazingly 70's feeling. - "Rather eat porridge together than a pork cutlet alone"
The Edge of the World (1937) - A very early performance by the great John Laurie - feuding and farming in the Scottish Islands - "Gone over?"
Hugo (2011) - A touching and sympathetic filmmakers movie about a filmmaker - has hidden depths and a decent performance by Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) - Thankfully viewed in 2 dimensions at Holmfirth Film Festival along with (see below) - "then who has been winding the clocks?"
Le Voyage Dans La Lune (1902?) - Hand coloured and with a sympathetically techno soundtrack - a marvellous early example of an SFX blockbuster - Georges Melies really understood the medium well - captivating. - " "
Apocalypto (2006) - Tried so hard to love this "Mayan family" movie.... Yes there were good bits but some of it seemed rushed, cheap and nasty and just plain bad.... think "polystyrene rocks" bad - a shame because it's not a bad film really. Fast paced and violent.- a bit like Last of the Mohicans meets Braveheart but not quite as good as either! - "I am Jaguar Paw. This is my forest. And I am not afraid."
Four Lions (2010) - Controversial but hilarious capers following four northern jihadists on their path to the "top floor" - Some lovely tender moments and a tiger of a topic that has literally been caught by the tail thanks to Chris Morris - "Your rhyming doo-lally"
Dark Star (1974) - Low budget sci-fi deep space planet exploding fun for all the family, featuring a giant inflatable tomato as an alien and a frozen commander! - "What a beautiful way to die - as a falling star"

K-Pax (2001) - Ok so it's a little bit sickly and feelgood and you kind of know quite early on that there are a limited number of outcomes, but fairly engrossing. I enjoyed it, and want to go to K-Pax! - "Do I smell apple pie?"
Near Dark (1987) - White trashy vampire movie that contains one or two decent scenes but other than that could have been a "made for TV" flick - As horror movies go, instantly forgettable - "Dumb suck"
Bright Young Things (2003) - Lavish period drama following the lives, loves and party lifestyle of the 30's beautiful people in London Town. Decadent and delightful little movie with a barnstorming cast. - "The most shocking orgy since the days of Sodom and Gomorrah rocked society last night."

Life is Sweet (1990) - Disjointed character exploration - what a strange film this one is - perhaps it's a bit highbrow for me.... I didn't get it! (not that I think there was much to get.... and that's the bit I get) - "It's better to be on your own than be with a bastard".
Brassed Off (1996) - Top movie, can't believe it's taken me so long to see it - gritty, harsh, sweet and sour, in a familiar background of fighting the pit closures....Great brass band music too - I wept! - "And God said: "Fuck it! Sew 'em up anyway".

The Cruel Sea (1953) - Extremely tense submarine hunting adventure - Jack Hawkins? tormented captain? yes please! Enough pink gin to sink a battleship. - "Snorkers! Good-oh!"
Brighton Rock (1947) - The dark post (first world) war depression era of Brighton's shady past - A Pathe classic gangster romp - "Imagine that, madam..... tinned salmon!"
Billy Liar (1963) - Charming Brit flick that capturing the northern early 60's vibe - Feeling sorry for poor old Billy as his imaginary world and reality collide - "Sorry lad.... no work today..... he said"
Nil By Mouth (1997) - Harsh, gritty and rather unpleasant viewing with an unsatisfying but probably disappointingly realistic ending - Great acting though - "Yes please love, make it a strong one.... none of that shamrock shit!"
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) - Historically significant and surprisingly warm technicolour war based love stories, tales of honour and fair play and the stiff upper lip - fairly epic at over two and a half hours - "War starts at midnight!"
All That Heaven Allows (1955) - Technicolour star crossed lovers that didn't quite explore the characters deeply enough to fully work - hasty! - "I can't shoot straight any more!"

The Doom Generation (1995) - sex, drugs and a whole lot o' emo nonsense - "You wan' a Dorito?"

Poll Results.
This is where I will log all the previous polls.
My glass is: Result - Overflowing. (Sept 2007 - Oct 2007) - Well, isn't this exciting? The end of my first "Blogger" style polling booth. I am pleased to report that all you lovely readers are an optimistic bunch!! Well done!!

Today is a?: Result - Bath day. (May 2007 - Sept 2007) - What a rubbish poll, what a rubbish result, what a waste of a polling booth. I need to innovate. Apologies for a tired thing dragging on for far too long.

Chocolate?: Result - Hate it. (Jan 2007 - May 2007) - It looks like my polling booth has finally fallen by the wayside. I can't for a single minute imagine that fifty percent of the people who pass through my blog hate chocolate. To be honest I am thinking of retiring the polling booth.

Feeling Lucky?: Result - Always. (Dec 2006 - Jan 2007) - Seems approximately fifty percent of the readership feels permanently lucky. What does that mean for the rest of us poor buggers? We can't all be lucky all the time, there's got to be some contrast. Woe is me.

War in Iraq: Result - It made things worse. (Oct - Dec 2006) - A surprisingly close result. I had guessed that nobody would believe anything other than the war had made things worse. Just goes to show how wrong you can be.

Take me: Result - From behind?? (Sep - Oct 2006) - After a bright start "Dancin' naked in the rain" lost out to the uphill gardening variety. You're a bunch of depraved puppies, that's all I can say. If you email me in your addresses, I'll be round presently to fulfill the requests.

Smoking?: Result - No smoke no joke! (Apr - Sep 2006) - Ok well, I let this one run a little too long. Apologies, it won't happen again. Conclusive enough, that in the age of the "nanny state" and the banning of smoking in SO many public spaces, it would appear that this is the correct thing to do.

How blue are you?: Result - Positively Pink!! (Mar-Apr 2006) - Well it's official, after trailing its way into spring, the momentum switched from blue to pink, and nearly half my readership now find themselves in a good mood!! Well done everyone!!

Take a cake?: Result - Chocolate!!. (Feb 2006) - Chocolate cake wins... I am disappointed. Christmas cake no votes.... Cheesecake languishing in second... What's the world coming to??

Today is a good day?: Result - It surely is!!. (Jan/Feb 2006) - I am surprised. Nearly half of the votes were for a good day. Extra surprising that the 24th January is officially the most depressing day of the year, and 6th February is the official "sick day of the year" when most people throw a wobbly from work.

Which came first? The chicken, or the egg??: Result - Egg. (Jan 2006) - This is a difficult question. I think those of a religious nature would go for chicken, and those of a more Darwinian nature, would go for egg. Maybe I am over simplifying this?

New Year's resolutions: Result - I will always love the fox. (Dec 2005) - You people are crazy... lovely, but firmly crazy. I am astonished that nobody actually admits to making and sticking to a resolution.

Did you click my "cool thing for today"?: Result - Never. (Dec 2005) - Makes you wonder why you bother sometimes don't it?

Career advice to Fox: Result - Be a dolphin. (Nov/Dec 2005) - I always aspired to be a dolphin, it was the profession I always wanted to pursue. Maybe y'all have given me the push I needed to make it happen.

This morning when I woke up.... I thought....: Result - I wish I went to bed earlier (Nov 2005) - I really thought "Where's my cigs?" was going to win, alas, it's an early night for me.

The Fox offers you a coffee: Result - Large Mocha (Oct/Nov 2005) - Pleasing result, I'm more than happy to buy these coffees.... see you all in Huddersfield on Sunday morning.... the drinks are on me!

Christmas?: Result - Think of baby Jesus!! (Oct 2005) - Very disappointing result for me, meaning I now have to begin my christmas shopping!

Ideal date?: Result - The lovely Mariah Carey on acid! (Oct 2005)

Animal of the month: Result - Hedgehog (Oct 2005)

If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?: Result - That's so inappropriate! (Sept 2005)
